Labeling Systems

Labeling Systems have been developed for many years to assist companies in their decision making process. Labeling Systems have evolved and advanced greatly over the years as technology and markets have changed. The Labeling Systems examined the adult user perception and utilization of nutrition labeling systems by adults in Canada, Mexico and the United States. Methods by adults from online user groups in each (Whites, Asians n=2959; Hispanics, n=667) and in Mexico (Census, n=3533) were tested for differences in preference of choice between these two demographics.

The majority of users in both Canada and the United States indicated that they used at least one type of pressure sensitive labeling system in their homes. Of those users, most (over 90%) indicated that they used at least two types. Pressure sensitive labels are those that are activated by applying pressure to a strip with a barcode on it or are designed to transfer product information directly to an electronic device such as a PDA or mobile phone. While over three-quarters of users in Canada indicated that they used at least one type of pressure sensitive labeling, it was evident from the available data that this was not the predominant experience of the United States users. In both Canada and the United States, when adults participated in a focus group discussion about the usefulness of different food labelling systems they were more likely to report that they used at least two types. For the United States markets, the clear winner in terms of system type was the universal labeling system. The second most popular labeling system was the bar code system, which used a different format in comparison to the U.S. market. Another system that was adopted fairly early in North America was the multi-value label. This was primarily used to track raw materials and to make the product easy to transport, but it did have value adding capabilities such as color changing and the ability to store more than one data field. In Canada, data management and inventory control were one of the primary purposes for adopting labeling systems. The trend in Europe was to select a system that provided easy access to the manufacturer data base through a single interface, but in Canada the focus was on quality rather than ease of access to the manufacturer database. Only about a quarter of manufacturers reported that their labeling equipment was compatible with the majority of the European manufacturers' equipment. When looking at the manufacturing companies that had the most difficulty in installing the most compatible labeling equipment, the common theme was a lack of training. Many manufacturers simply do not know how to operate the equipment they need.

The trend in Europe appears to be to select high tech manufacturers with access to database management systems (DMS). These manufacturers are able to develop their own labeling systems, but many times require support from third parties such as an IT company. The advantage of using a European manufacturer with an IT background is that the company typically has internal expertise in DMS applications that eliminates the need for an outside provider. For larger organizations with more sophisticated labeling applications, importing support may be necessary.  Kindly  visit this website  https://www.britannica.com/technology/labeling-packaging  for more useful  reference.

The trend in North America is toward the use of nft (nutrition science) based equipment to automate the labeling systems. The advantage of this type of equipment is the ability to quickly identify required nutrients and contaminants from a wide variety of products. The nft systems can also handle multiple stock levels and can determine whether or not a product is safe to sell based on batch, case, or production data. Some of the manufacturers who are popular with the nft systems are General Electric, Inc., oman, Inc., and Kraft Foods America Inc.
